In the family bible he has written that he was "kj°bmann" when he got married. Census 1900 He lived at Gudvang i Christiania, with family

Carl Andreas Hagerup was born at Voss and moved to Christiania at the age of 1. He went to Nissen School at Frogner, took "Examen Artium" (A-levels - Highschool) at the University. He enters into business and travelled abroad to Magdeburg in Germany where he remained a few years before returning home to Christiania in 1878. He established his own brokerage firm in insurance in Christiania. On 1. May 1878 he was made "general agent of Magdeburger Feurversicherungs Gesellschaft which he kept to his death in 1907. In addition to this agency he obtained agency for marine insurance and other types of insurance. On 1 May 1905 he was awarded the Gold Medal with Diploma as recognition for his lifelong efforts for Magderburger F.G. His contribution took place in a time where this kind of insurance enterprice moved from infancy to fully flenged fireinsurance imdemnity in Norway. At the "Brandforsikringsselskapenenes Centralorganisasjon" (The fireinsurancecompanies central organisation) he made an impact as a member of the Insurance Comittee for the development of insurance in Norway.
